Suite Lounge

Celebrates its fifth anniversary

Puente Romano’s nightclub celebrates its fifth anniversary this year. Giles Brown reports on the subtle success of Suite.

Godfather of Soul, James Brown (alas, no relation) once famously declared, “I may not be right, but I’m never wrong!” Well, Godfather I can be wrong, and I was certainly wrong when I turned up on the opening night of Daniel Shamoon’s nightclub at the Puente Romano Hotel five years ago. I really didn’t think that the beautiful people of Banus would want to party in a venue that I thought looked like a shady souk.

Not only that, I reasoned, but the whole concept of a restaurant that transformed into a club during the evening had already been proved a failure, when the iconic Joe’s Bar was destroyed in the same experiment. But, as Einstein once said, “Hey, what do I know?” The guest list at Suite includes Prince Harry, Callum Best, Don Johnson and a host of Premiership footballers who drop by when they are in town. And it was the venue for the riotous Gumball Rally party with Adrien Brody, Jodie Kidd and Jay Kay soaking up the high octane atmosphere.

It’s In the Mix
PR Denise Matthews explains the reason behind such Suite success. “I think that it’s a combination of great service and a dedicated team who have been together since the opening, and we’re a solid company!

“It’s a great concept,” she adds, “changing from a fusion restaurant to a nightclub, and that is very much a natural transition. You can do what you want - you can come for dinner, you can come for drinks or you can stay all night…”

Top French DJ Malik Alari is now in charge of the music, which plays to an eclectic crowd “We get all sorts here,” says Denise “from the old crowd that still like to party to the young kids.”

On June 27 the party moves to the beach with the opening of Suite del Mar, so Summer 2008 looks certain to be another storming season!
