The Time is White!

Ski Season opened Sat 5th December in Sierra Nevada

It's the white time for skiers and snowboarders to head to the Sierra Nevada to catch the first snow of the season, says Louise Cook Edwards

Great news for ski fantatics.... Not before time, Sierra Nevada has announced the opening of the ski station for Saturday 5th December following a steady snowfall last weekend and an ample covering of plump, powdery snow pumped out by the station's hundred powerful snow cannons.   Another light sprinkling is predicted in time for the opening this coming weekend - a long weekend or puente, punctuated with public holidays taking us right through to Wednesday before it's back to work.

Official reports confirm that an ample 30 centimetres of snow is covering the pistes in Borreguiles, and by the time the station opens, depending on further snowfall, Cetursa will reveal just how many glorious kilometres of the white stuff will be available for skiing and snowboarding.

You can prebook your forfait, or ski passes with a 10 % discount, through the official Sierra Nevada website, where you can also  watch  fuzzy, snow filled weathercams or book an apartamento to make a weekend of it.

Don't get too excited.  The resort will open only the baby slopes - for beginners - in Borreguiles - with a mere 1.7kms of skiable pistes available.

For safety reasons, the slopes will be limited to just 1000 people -and to be fair on skiers who will find their ski wings clipped a little, ski passes will be half price - at 20,50€ for adults and 16,50€ for children a day.

The Sierra Nevada is a 40 minute drive from Granada. Go early, or prepare for the traffic jams.  www.certusa.es Tel: 902708090.
