A Topaz named “Marbella” is resort’s alluring new Ambassador

A spectacular topaz has just become an unusual and eye-catching ambassador for Marbella.
The exceptionally large stone – the largest of its kind in the world will be “fantastic promotion for the town,” affirmed Marbella Mayor, Angeles Muñoz at the presentation of the stone at the Museo del Grabado Contemporáneo in Marbella.
The topaz, which was displayed briefly at the Engravings Museum in Marbella will be exhibited at the main international institutes for gemology around the world, promoting the name of Marbella in a flash of dazzling blue purity. “It is wonderful that such a unique blue topaz will be associated with the beauty of Marbella,” said the Mayor expressing her gratitude to Fulgencio Alcaraz, vice president of the Royal Collection, the proprietors of the gem.
Alcaraz pointed out that the 8.225 carat stone is outstanding in its perfection, measured by the purity, colour and transparency of the spectacular “Marbella” gem, and the Royal Collection felt there was a synergy with a Mediterranean resort such as Marbella.
The jewel has been part of the Royal Collections since April 2000 and has been chosen as one of the Gems of Exception, an exquisite selection of precious stones that are unique in the world for size and purity.
The gem will appear in the area again this year, at the Art Natura centre in Malaga from 16 December, and then it will travel to diverse countries and appear in specialist gemology publications.
