A classic meeting place, this bustling café is an institution. Located in the beautfiul, tiled Alameda Park in the heart of town, Cafeteria Marbella is a stone’s throw from the Casco Antiguo, and just minutes to the beach.

There are a few late night bars along Marbella’s small port, but Colonial is undoubtedly the loudest. The DJ playing funk and house gets the crowd dancing. On a steamy summer night, the terrace is your best bet for some air. Open until 3am.

Undoubtedly one of the best tapas bars in Marbella, La Taberna is an authentic Basque dining experience. The waiters circulate with loaded trays, inviting diners to choose from an enticing selection of snacks. When you can’t eat another morsel, the bill is calculated according to the number of discarded cocktail sticks littering the table. Highly recommended. Get there early as spare seats are quickly snapped up.

A small but perfectly placed bakery with just a few tables inside and out, La Tahona is at the entrance of Nueva Andalucía before the bullring. The good cakes and pastries are part of the appeal, while people watching takes a close second.

There are three Venencia outlets in the centre of Marbella, all of which are popular with Spanish residents and tourists alike. As you’d expect from a tapas bar, the menu is extensive with plenty of vegetarian dishes and traditional Mediterranean fare. Typically Spanish, you’re sure to return after visiting any of the three bars.

The Port’s most popular piano bar, Marvellous features the vocal talents of Sinatra soundalike Paul and sensational singer Maite. A Marbella landmark. Since it opened in 1977, Sinatra’s has been the meeting point in Banús for the jet-set, wannabies and has-beens. Incalculable evenings have started with the words “Meet me at Sinatra’s...” and it’s the place for people spotting - footballers, soap stars, yachties,and platinum blondes. The faces change but the conversations don’t. A word of warning, however. Don’t even attempt to meet someone there during summer, you’ll never find them in the crush and never, ever take a first date - she’s liable to be whisked away by a tanned Lothario while you fight your way to the bar.

Stylish and comfortable, this is definitely a place to check out for after work cocktails or just to hang out in with friends who enjoy good music and a chilled out atmosphere. The Bar is perfectly located close to Marbella’s Old Town and the Paséo, making it a great place for that all-important watering hole following an evening meal.

One of those places you stumble across one night, having had a drink or two, and have trouble finding a second time. This 200-year-old house has a soundtrack of electric music and a centrepiece of a palm tree in the inside patio downstairs. The upstairs restaurant serves Argentinean food.

Banús’ answer to the Trustafarian bar, Terra Blues is hugely popular with the young hippie Bohemian scene, playing an eclectic mix of rock, reggae, soul, acid jazz and anything else that takes the bar staff’s fancy. One of the few places in Banús where the people behind the bar seem to be having as much fun as the customers.
