You may not recognise the name but you will certainly recognise the work of Michael Parkes. His iconic posters decorate bedrooms and boardrooms around the world.
Based in Mijas, Parkes uses long, graceful lines to invoke astounding detail, whether viewed from a distance or close-up. Fittingly, the American artist's admirers are as varied as his imagery. Turner and Monet fans love his use of colour and light, while classical devotees appreciate his sense of form and drama. Parkes is currently working on his latest sculpture, Angel Affair . This beautiful piece brings together both the celestial and the earthbound, as the angel swoops to kiss the lips of her lover.

Mention Marbella’s art scene, and Paula Vincenti’s name will almost certainly crop up. Having left Seville for Marbella after completing her degree in Fine Art, Paula has become something of a treasure amongst local art dealers, interior designers and gallery owners. So covetable is the young artist, in fact, that many of her early works adorn the walls of the grandest Marbella homes and resorts, including the reception of the legendary five-star Marbella Club Hotel. Motherhood has softened Paula Vincenti’s work most recent work, somewhat. That’s not to say it’s any less powerful, however. Her predominantly autobiographical collection is as arresting as ever, but the pieces omit a happier vibe than her earlier New York pieces – which revealed the isolation felt by city-dwellers - with more colour and movement than before. Working often from her own photographs, the pieces in the collection appear part Polaroid, part painting, affording a captivating dynamic to the canvases.
